Reducing Parental Conflict

Loxley House Station Street Nottingham Nottinghamshire NG2 3NG

Overview

Some degree of arguing between parents is a normal part of life, but when is it too much and what can you do as a practitioner? Frequent, intense, and poorly resolved conflict can have a lasting, negative effect on a child's mental health, behaviour and future. But offering support at the right time and in the right way can improve outcomes for both parents and children.

This session is for anyone working with parents and explores how to recognise signs of parental conflict in the early stages, before it's escalated to domestic abuse. Learn how to support parents to find constructive outcomes, which is shown to provide positive lessons for children in skills like negotiation and compromise.

After this training session you'll have

A greater understanding of how conflict between parents can affect a child's future

Awareness of the triggers for parental conflict

An improved understanding of the differences between domestic abuse and parental conflict

Knowledge about Nottingham City's work towards reducing parental conflict

Practical tools to help parents find constructive outcomes

Provided in collaboration with Nottingham City Council
