Worried about nursery admission

I am 32 weeks pregnant. My friends tell me that I am quite late to book a nursery space for my baby (whom I have yet to deliver). Do we have to book a space that early? I am very confused. Are nursery spaces always full? Even I have no clue about the nurseries around my area. Any suggestions?

Hello, I feel there are not many books specially written for children with autism as such (maybe I am wrong) but they can read any book by themselves (if they already know reading) or with adult support. Children learning to read can read stories through picture cue cards or social stories, there are so many free ones and you can download them. I think even N&S e-resources have some. There are some story flash cards also, which you can buy from Amazon or any other online store. You have to combine a few cards to create your own story. It's fun to create those short stories with children. Thanks. Hope it will help.

All the major banks in Uk and some private banks offer childrens bank accounts - long term and short term bonds etc. Google all the options, compare them, select a few - have a discussion with them and choose the best one. Every family is looking for something which suits them the best. Hope it will help.

There can be so many options: - use felt Christmas trees and ornaments - they are lovely. If you are not planning to get that just get one of them to your children anyways. It's fun to play and decorate them - You can use non-breakable ornaments ...don't use glass ornaments/decorations, please. - Christmas trees would be shiny and with lights...trees attract everyone from babies and toddlers...once your tree is ready..create a boundary and try to block the tree for babies or toddlers to reach ( you can try :)) - Keep on reminding the children to be careful near the Christmas tree and enjoy the festive time.

You need to keep a few things in mind: Seating The safest way for an infant to fly is in a rear-facing car seat, which should be buckled in. If your baby weighs between 20-40 lbs, they should also be in a car seat. Babies under 24 months old can usually sit on an adult's lap, but some airlines may have special seats for babies and toddlers. Car seat If you're bringing a car seat, make sure it's FAA-approved for airline travel. You can check the product manual or look for a label that says "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft". Entertainment You can bring a tablet, books, or a drawing product to keep your baby occupied (depending on the age). You can also try in-flight games. Food and snacks You can usually take food and snacks through security, but avoid anything messy or sticky. Comfort items Bring a pillow or blanket for your baby to use. You can also bring a familiar comforter if your baby is attached to one. Diapers You can try overnight diapers for long travel days. Other essentials Bring travel-sized diaper cream, baby shampoo, body wash, and moisturizer. Flight time If possible, try to fly in the evening to increase the chance of your baby falling asleep.

You can shortlist the schools based on their reviews and Ofsted reports. You can book some show arounds of the schools. Once you are visited then you can ask all your questions to the head teachers. It would be best if somehow you can speak with the existing parents and their experience with the school. once you have finalised the schools, you can share the names with your borough. Good luck with your search.

This is from NHS: https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/labour-and-birth/preparing-for-the-birth/pack-your-bag-for-labour/ Pack your bag for labour What you'll need for labour and birth Get a few things ready at least 3 weeks before your due date. For yourself, you'll probably want to pack: your birth plan and hospital notes something loose and comfortable to wear during labour that does not restrict you from moving around or make you too hot 3 changes of loose, comfortable clothes 2 or 3 comfortable and supportive bras, including nursing bras if you're planning to breastfeed - remember, your breasts will be much larger than usual breast pads 2 packets of super-absorbent period or maternity pads 5 or 6 pairs of knickers - you may want to bring some disposable ones your washbag with a toothbrush, hairbrush, flannel, soap, lip balm, deodorant, hair ties and other toiletries towels things to help you pass the time and relax - for example, books, magazines, music or podcasts a fan or water spray to cool you down front-opening or loose-fitting nighties or tops if you're going to breastfeed dressing gown and slippers healthy snacks and drinks extra pillows a TENS machine if you intend to use one any medicines you're taking For the baby, you might want to pack: bodysuits, vests and sleepsuits an outfit for going home in a hat, scratch mittens and socks or booties plenty of nappies a shawl or blanket muslin squares or bibs a car seat for the trip home Home births If you're planning to give birth at home, discuss your plans and what you need to prepare with your midwife. Think about where in your home you want to give birth. You're likely to need: clean bed clothes and towels clothes (including a hat) and nappies for the baby 2 packets of super-absorbent period or maternity pads Even if you're planning to have your baby at home, you should pack some things in case you need to go into hospital at any point. Get prepared When you come home, you will not want to do much more than rest and care for your baby, so do as much planning as you can in advance. If you can, buy lots of basic items such as toilet paper, period pads and nappies in advance. If you have a freezer, you could cook some meals in advance and freeze them. Transport You should plan how you'll get to the hospital or midwifery unit because you might need to go there at any time of the day or night. If you're planning to go by car, make sure it's running well and that there's always enough petrol in the tank. If someone else has said they'll take you, make an alternative arrangement just in case they're not available. Hope it will help. Best of luck and congratulations in advance.

Hello, Have you applied for a special school? or is he getting any extra help in the mainstream? You can ask for extra support from the school if it's written in his EHCP or if it's not written, you can ask from the council. There are many children with down syndrome who attend main stream school in UK. It all depends on the level of support they need. You can speak to the school or maybe create a system where you get all the detailed information about his school time. Good Luck!

For private sessions, babies can start the private nurseries when they are 3 months old. Funded spaces allows them to start the private nursery when they are 9 months old. Children start reception at the age of 4 years old but these days all the schools have their nurseries too. Children can start school nursery from 2 years too but it all depends on the spaces as schools have limited spaces. Thanks,

Experts disagree on when and how to establish a routine - and even on whether you need a set schedule for your baby. But many say that babies are ready for a general schedule between 2 and 4 months of age. Most infants' sleeping and feeding habits become more consistent and predictable after three or four months

When toilet training a child with special needs, you can try these tips: Start early: Help your child get used to the bathroom and learn skills like sitting on a potty and washing their hands. Break down the task: Make the process easier by breaking it down into simple steps. Use rewards: Praise and reward your child for each step they learn. You can use descriptive praise, gestures, signs, or a favorite activity. Use picture cards: Picture cards can help your child understand what to do and remember each step. Schedule toileting: Take your child to the bathroom every five minutes for a five-minute sit. Gradually increase the time between sittings. Make it fun: Try to make going to the toilet fun and not scary. Teach words and signs: Teach words and signs for toilets and wee and poo. Consider professional help: If needed, you can get professional help.

Hi! Normally nursery would refer your child to speech and language therapy. I have heard, there's a long waiting list. But still, it's one of the fastest ways. You can speak to your doctor too and he/she can refer to the speech and language therapist Also, you can go private too. It's fast but will cost lot of money. One of the issues which will come would be coordination with GP, nursery, and borough.

Special needs swimming clubs/sessions (1 to 1) Hello all, I am looking for 1 to 1 swimming sessions/ swimming club for my teenage boy. He has autism and ADHD. I tried 1 to 1 classes for him in a few leisure centres but I have seen instructors don't have any experience with sen children. They don't have any strategies to teach my child. They just use the standard practice and I don't think, it will work with my son. I am looking for someone who is experienced in teaching children with special needs. I can travel a little far, but trying to find out the best place for my son. (FYI: He loves water and always gets so excited to see the swimming pool). Please message me, if you or your company can help my son swim. Thanks,

About my toddlers behaviour... My 2.5-year-old has started showing loads of tantrums all of a sudden. He never used to do these things before. We are in the process of toilet training, not sure if that's why his behaviour has changed. In the shop, he lies down and starts crying for something. Never sleeps on time now. Becomes so hyper if there are any guests at home. Suddenly, his food habits have changed too. He has become a picky eater and nothing has changed at home. It's the same environment for him at his nursery and home. Can someone please help me with some strategies I can use at home for my child? I really appreciate any help you can provide.

I don't want to let my friends and family know about my position right now as I am scared they all will be very judgemental towards me.

Some of the things which we use and find it useful: - Birthday off - monthly well-being budget - employee of the term - subscription to health care benefits which includes physio, optician, and 24-hour counselling helpline (really useful for people under stress/ mental illness) - after every 3 years - 1 extra annual leave

Games and puzzles: Math games and puzzles can be a great way to make learning math more enjoyable and engaging. Some examples include logic puzzles, computer games, sports, and family board games. Math bingo and Sudoku are also fun ways to practice math skills. Hands-on activities: Make math more hands-on to help children visualize abstract concepts. Encourage math talk: Encourage children to work together and discuss problems and solutions. Read books: Start a math-themed book collection to help keep children engaged. Math tutoring: A home math tutor can help children with challenges they may be facing in the classroom.
