Welcome to Newbury School, a new provision right in the heart of the midlands Birmingham.

We are a co-educational independent school educating young people between the ages of 11-18. We offer hope and future focus to young people who have and who are struggling in the school system, whatever their background.

We aim to be the best independent alternative education for these young people by providing outstanding staff, teaching and learning.

We are looking for a Behaviour and Pastoral Lead to work effectively to plan and deliver strong whole school behaviour management and pastoral leadership. To champion an effective behaviour management culture focused on rewards and ethos not sanctions. To be a role model and advocate for young people. To have a strong understanding of each and every child’s needs and difficulties. To improve attendance and engagement.

As the Behaviour and Pastoral Lead tasks are:

  • To lead on Behaviour Watch and ensure the platform is used to its full potential
  • To be the lead pastoral mentor for all pupils
  • To be “on call” for any pupils who require time out of the classroom
  • To lead on behaviour and pastoral intervention planning
  • To lead on behaviour CPD
  • To support the senior leadership team to develop systems to support positive behaviour management approaches
  • To report to the senior leadership team on behaviour incidents and attendance
  • To lead on Individual Behaviour Plans and guidelines
  • To lead on attendance improvements and interventions
  • To plan and deliver a wide range of extra-curricular activities which promote learning, good behaviour, improved social skills and well-being

Other duties are specified within the Job Description.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Educated to degree level, Teaching/Training qualification, Evidence of ongoing professional development, Physical restraint training
  • Strong behaviour management knowledge and experience
  • Experience working with children with SEND and SEMH needs
  • Calm demeanour
  • Positive outlook and encouraging
