Lakeland Wildlife Oasis

Hale North West Cumbria LA7 7FE

A small 3-acre licensed zoo, the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis first opened its doors to the public on the 14th April 1992. Initially designed and constructed as 'part-zoo, part-museum', the zoo in its early years consisted of a butterfly hall, aquarium and tropical hall. Visitors could see a small collection of invertebrates, fish, amphibians and reptiles, as well as a colony of brown rats and a pair of common marmosets.

Conservation and education have always been prominent themes at the zoo. Throughout the past three decades, the zoo has grown and developed, expanding in size and transferring ownership to the newly formed charity The Lakeland Trust for Natural Sciences in 2012.

As a registered charity we aim to:

promote and contribute to the conservation of wildlife, biodiversity and natural habitats

promote and carry out scientific study and research, especially where conservation benefits accrue

engage people in the conservation of threatened species
