Life at the High School

The High School of Glasgow is a vibrant, caring and high-achieving co-educational day school for pupils between the ages 3-18.

Our Values
Above all we respect and value people, of whatever age or ability. We are committed to helping young people perform to the best of their ability and to experience the opportunity to excel in their chosen fields. We go to whatever lengths necessary to make everyone in our community feel welcome.

This is what we mean when we say our values PEOPLE, EXCELLENCE, WELCOMING and COMMUNITY.

Day to Day at HSOG
We welcome pupils from 8:00am to both the Junior and Senior School, timetables run until 3.15pm at Junior School and 3.45pm at Senior. Both Junior and Senior School pupils engage in a varied curriculum every day from Maths, English, Science and Computing to Languages, Arts and Sport.

Morning assembly is an important start to every day when both Junior and Senior School congregate. Being together as a community provides an opportunity to reflect, take stock and celebrate good news and achievements. We deliberately keep our community to just under 1000 pupils, small enough not to get lost, but big enough to be able to offer a wide range of subjects and activities.

Introducing children to a learning environment at age 3 (Kindergarten) allows pupils to develop and grow, making the transition into Junior and Senior Schools smoother. Our Transitus (P7) year introduces Junior School pupils to a Senior School environment. We limit our class sizes from Junior School through to Sixth year to enable our teachers to work with each pupil closely, concentrating on each pupils individual needs.

Teaching and Assessments
Our teaching styles evolve year on year; by keeping up to date with modern techniques and resources, reacting to our pupils' requirements and making sure we are going above and beyond for every pupil. With assessments being an unavoidable part of school life, we like to introduce pupils to exam techniques from Transitus year. This experience has proved successful year on year with current 5th Year pupils achieving on average 5 Higher passes each, and a 98.5% pass rate at Higher with 80.6% at grade A.
