Welcome to The Ladies’ College website. We hope that what you see and read here will give you a flavour of our College and encourage you to get to know us better.

We are a single sex girls school for 2½ to 18 year olds and have approximately 600 girls attending in total. There is an established partnership for Sixth Form with Elizabeth College, where girls and boys mix in classes and for other joint College activities.

The Ladies’ College was established in 1872 and has educated girls for almost 150 years, developing a strong academic reputation. We aim to be the best we can be and look to encourage, create and inspire. We operate on a single site and pupils from our Pre Preparatory Department and The Ladies' College, Melrose (our Preparatory School) are housed in separate buildings on the same campus as our Senior girls and the Sixth Form.

In the 21st Century, life is full of opportunity and challenges. Our aim at The Ladies’ College is to give each girl the confidence to develop, so they become young adults who are proactive, positive, caring and resilient. Academic achievement is important and we are proud of the results achieved by our students, yet there is also clear recognition that opportunities outside of the classroom are a vital part of a rounded education. They can help to develop self-esteem and a range of interests and opportunities to achieve and contribute to an individual’s well-being which is also an important part of today’s education for young people.

All girls who join The Ladies’ College, from age seven, become part of a House and it is here that many of the broader opportunities to have some fun and get involved occur, e.g. quizzes, plays and competitions. Older students take the lead in the assemblies and in organising their House and are strong role models for younger girls.

The girls are also part of a class or tutor group and this teacher is the first point of contact for the girls and parents.

In the Senior School and Sixth Form there are also Year Co-ordinators who have an overview of the girls progress and are an additional point of contact and support.

Our academic and pastoral systems are designed to offer the best support to the girls and to allow them to discover and develop their self-esteem, so that the girls themselves are happy, love learning, are fulfilled and have a clear sense of service towards others as being important goals.
